Today we visited the Sea of Galilee, perhaps the most famous sea in the Bible, and certainly the New Testament. Of Jesus’ thirty-three major miracles, twenty-five occurred around the Sea of Galilee.
We then visited Caesarea Philippi, the location Jesus took His disciples and asked the question, “Whom do the people say that I the Son of man am?”
We wrapped up our day visiting Capernaum, the first-century center of commercial trade for this fisherman’s region on the northern coast of the Sea of Galilee. This was where Jesus established His base for His ministry in the Galilee region. It is sometimes referred to as “his own city” (Matthew 9:1). Peter and Andrew lived here for a time.
Our group is staying at a hotel in Tiberias, the main city of the Galilee Region, located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.
