We left our hotel in Jerusalem early this morning and travelled to the Judean Desert, along the Dead Sea, and saw the Jordan River in the area where Joshua led the Children of Israel into the Promised Land and where Elijah would have been caught up to Heaven in a chariot of fire, leaving behind Elisha to serve as God’s prophet for the people of Israel. This is also the area where John the Baptist would have baptized Jesus.
We continued on to En Gedi, where David hid in the caves and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe in I Samuel 24. Then we visited the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found near Qumran. On our trip back to Jerusalem, we stopped near the city of Jericho at the Dead Sea for our group to swim (actually, to float) and they also enjoyed getting to ride camels.
