Sea of Galilee

Today we visited the Sea of Galilee, perhaps the most famous sea in the Bible, and certainly the New Testament. Of Jesus’ thirty-three major miracles, twenty-five occurred around the Sea of Galilee. The group was able to travel by boat on Galilee and hear an excellent message by Missionary to Tanzania, Jerry Wyatt.

We then were able to see a boat that was found dating back to the times of Jesus. We also had the privilege of hearing GSBC Professor, Pastor Mike Johnson, preach on the shores of Galilee by the ancient city of Capernaum.

The River Jordan is found many places in the Bible, and today we were able to visit the place where Jesus was baptized. Following the River Jordan, we had a delicious lunch of freshly caught fish (or chicken/lamb).

After lunch, we visited the Mount of Beatitudes where it is believed Jesus preached that famous sermon in Matthew 5. The day finished out at Magdala, one of the most important archeological finds of recent times, where we were able to view fascinating ruins dating back to the time of Jesus.

Our group is staying in this beautiful area of great historical importance at a hotel in Tiberias, the main city of the Galilee Region, located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee.
